In order to deliver an appropriate, inspiring and creative curriculum we have to plan for this. Different levels of planning are required at academy, curriculum, cohort and classroom level all of which require to us to ask ourselves questions about how we are engaging learners and how we are ensuring that they can get the best possible outcome.
In order to answer these questions we need to reflect upon our practices and audit what we have in place. It might be useful to start by considering who is responsible for different types of planning and how all staff members contribute to the development of the curriculum.
Whole Academy Planning
Working within a mandatory framework where appropriate the academy are responsible for developing, in collaboration with a team of curriculum leaders and other key staff to develop a curriculum model and vision for the academy. Curriculum areas are then able to develop their own plans for how they will deliver this curriculum.
As practitioners we need to ask ourselves:
Is there a long term plan in place throughout the academy? Do we know what this is and are we aware of our role within tis?
Do we share common goals and if so how are we meeting these?
