No-hands up rule
Ask students a question and tell them the no-hands up rule applies. Ask students at random for their answers. All students have to do some thinking because they could be asked!
Write the names of all students on lolly-sticks and pull their names out randomly to answer questions. There are great apps for the iPhone / iPad that do this – take a look at Teacher’s Pick and Who’s Next.
Ask the class a question and give thinking time. Tell the students you’re going to ask someone at random
Throw the ball
‘Throw the ball’ – the ball is held by the person answering the question. They then pass the ball on to the person who has to answer the next question
Use Bloom’s Taxonomy to plan your questions. Find out more on the Teacher’s Tool Box website.
